Making emerging technology tangible.

At VR Heroes, I worked with clients to translate an idea into an experience people could actually use. The technology was new; the purpose had to be clear.

Rijkswaterstaat: Ruimte voor de Rivier

An interactive 360° experience of the Nijmegen river project, filmed from the ground, a boat and a helicopter. Visitors at events and exhibition stands could explore the project from different perspectives and understand what it meant in practice.

Heineken Experience

A virtual tour for business-to-business events, helping people discover the Heineken Experience remotely and giving representatives a natural way to start a conversation.

Virtual Playground

Children could upload a drawing and then stand inside it using a VR headset. The application won an award. For me, the project also illustrated the value of understanding what a client imagined and finding a practical way to bring it to life.

Fire service

An interactive 360° fire-safety experience for a travelling information stand. It highlighted an accessible escape key, closing doors and smoke alarms. This was an early step towards the training work that led to Warp VR.

Panorama Mesdag

Historic stereoscopic photographs were combined with present-day 360° photographs taken at the same locations. Visitors could compare past and present, with the original photographs’ three-dimensional depth preserved in VR.

Beeld en Geluid

I built a back-end system and a VR application that let museum staff select 360° YouTube videos and make them available through a simple headset menu. It connected the staff’s content-selection workflow with the visitor experience.

The takeaway

Six experiences, each built around a real purpose
